About Us

The Collegiate Singers was formed 12 years ago as a way for music-loving parents, faculty and friends of the Collegiate School to come together and sing.

Why we’re here

  • We love to sing & appreciate doing it together. Many of us sang in high school or college. If you enjoy singing in the shower, the Collegiate Singers is the place for you!
  • We think highly of the Collegiate School & many of us have direct/indirect relationships with the school.
  • For those of us who have boys at Collegiate, it’s a great opportunity to have our own unique experience at the school (apart from your sons) & demonstrate to them our zest for outside activities.
How we sing
  • We are non-professional singers who sing as well as each of us is able.
  • Our repertoire is usually the classics, but we occasionally do show tunes and other lighter works.
  • We try to attend as many rehearsals as possible and learn the music as best as we can.
  • We act upon our own recognizance about knowing the music. If we know we are lagging behind prior to a performance, we avail ourselves of self-learning music files on music website.
  • Bring your own water to keep your voice hydrated during rehearsal. We occasionally will have tea available during rehearsals snacks/wine on special occasions. Singers contribute foodstuffs as they see fit.
How we meet our expenses:
  • Collegiate School provides our rehearsal space, director & accompanist. We pay dues each year which are comparable to the amounts at other volunteer, adult, school-related groups.
  • Dues help cover costs of performance expenses (soloists, orchestral accompanists & the venue) & our occasional one section leader throughout the year.
  • This year dues will be $200 per season.
  • We will make every effort to accommodate special circumstances about the dues - please contact Claudia Rader.
  • We expect all Collegiate Singers to pay for their own music provide their own
  • music folders for performances. These costs typically amount to about $50 per year.
Performances
  • The lion’s share of our rehearsal is usually for two performances each year - a more modest effort in the Fall and works more significant in mid-spring for which we typically engage a small orchestra.
  • The Collegiate Singers always have a regular spot on the Collegiate School Holiday Program in December.
  • When possible we try to add on short extra performances for small groups such as the nearby Salvation Army residence or nearby hospitals.
